An Early Spring Trip to Volcan Lonquimay
This weekend I got to join a quick trip back down to Volcan Lonquimay, the site of a previous trip to do some skiing. This time our intended objective was hiking in the Conguillío National Park, for Graeme and Yara’s last trip to the park before moving to Santiago and also for them to show something of the south of Chile to their friend Audrey who was visiting.

Hiking Around Dichato
Yesterday I got a quick text from some friends, inviting me to join them for a trip to the beach in a place called “Dichato”. I had not been up there before and the weather was decent (oscillating between cool overcast and warm in the sun). I met Woody and Deborah near my apartment and we hoped to catch a bus from Concepción. We waited for fifteen or twenty minutes, with no signs of buses going all the way to our destination. So we decided on an intermediate option: a bus to Tomé (which seemed to appear every few minutes), where we would see if we could find another bus to take us the rest of the way to Dichato.

Checking Out the Local Bouldering Gym
While in undergrad and grad school, I used to do a lot of climbing, usually spending half of my weekends each month scrambling around on rocks. As my PhD progressed and my climbing partners moved around the country, my climbing tapered off. Over the past couple years, I probably only climbed a handful of times a year, each time, thinking I should get back to climbing more regularly.
